You will encounter a lot of myths when you are building a home based business franchise and people buy into them everyday, including distributors. These misperceptions can cause people to reject a business or even an industry, which in the end means sacrificing a lifetime of income. Today we will be talking a common myth about products offered by home based businesses.
Through out the years of building a business I will get questions like,
“I saw this network marketing business and I don’t really like the product, the sponsor said I should sign up anyways, what do I do?” or
“I joined the business because I really liked the product, but three years later my business hasn’t grown. What should I do?”
These questions come from opposite perspectives, one thinks they have to like the product, the other has found out even if they like the product, they need more than just a product to build a business.
So what’s the bottom line, does it matter or not?
Yes and no.
There are advantages to being in a business with a product you like. You will sell it easily because it will be more of a recommendation, and you will be more enthusiastic about something that you personally use and enjoy. The downside is most businesses don’t have a lot of selection, so does that make or break the business? I will get to that in a minute…
But from the other side of the fence, a business is a business and it will work, if you work it. If the product is good it may just be an issue of personal taste. For all you know many other people will enjoy it.
Think about your best friends…
Do you all like the same movies, shows, foods, cloths, ideas, colors…etc?
Sure you agree on some things but not everything.
This is why I always encourage looking for a home based business with a wide product line. There is bound to be something you will like and can recommend. After all you are much more enthusiastic about the things you like and benefit from. There will also be plenty of things that you may not like but your customers will.
In the course of building a home based business franchise you talk to consumers, and possible new distributors everyday. If you talked to five people a day that’s 150 people a month. If you only have one product, a percentage of people will not get involved because they don’t like your product or they don’t feel like they could sell your product. I.E. A man selling make up, it’s been done but far far more woman join a makeup business than men, fair?
So the smaller your product line the less likely you are to sponsor someone and whatever the percentage may be that doesnt join because of your product line, small or large, imagine this…
What if you had two hundred people in your business talking to 150 people a month? The impact would be even more prominent!
